What is Writer?
Writer is the word processor component of LibreOffice. Writer application includes all the usual features of a word processor (spelling check, thesaurus, hyphenation, autocorrect, find and replace, automatic generation of tables of contents and indexes, mail merge and others).
Writer also provides important features such as:
- Templates and styles
- Page layout methods, including frames, columns, and tables
- Automated tables of contents and indexes
- Embedding or linking of graphics, spreadsheets, and other objects
- Built-in drawing tools
- Master documents, to group a collection of documents into a single document
- Change tracking during revisions
- Mail merge
- Export to PDF, including bookmarks
And many more.
Writer main Window and interface
The main Writer workspace shown in the image below contains the following parts:
- Title bar. Displays current filename and application
- Menu bar. The main application menu with access to all the command and features
- Standard toolbar. Quick access to basic commands
- Formatting toolbar. Quick access to basic formatting commands
- Sidebar. Access to properties, styles, gallery and navigator
- Status bar. General information about the current document and view control
As mentioned before LibreOffice has a consistent user interface which means that other components main windows will have similar layout and look.
